Newprint began in 1991, in the garage under Robert and Sally's family home, from small beginnings began their journey to the modern day premises they now occupy.

Robert New, printer by trade and working for a well established printing company in Hobart decided to strike out on his own and for a period of time he worked at all aspects of running a business. The business quickly grew and Sally who at the time was employed by Telstra left her job to assist Rob full time. By 1995 Newprint had outgrown the confines of a suburban garage, a site was chosen, factory built and Newprint moved lock, stock, and barrel to Huntingfield, an industrial site south of Hobart.

Newprint now employees 8 full time and 2 casual staff. It has grown from a one printing press operation to three presses including a recently acquired 4 colour GTO52.  We are commercial offset printers. We have continually worked at becoming self sufficient and handling most processes in house.

Robert is a fully qualified printer by trade and Sally has learnt all aspects of the business from the hands on approach, from running machinery to graphic design.

Rob now spends his time overseeing the running of the presses and operates the quoting side of the business. Sally continues to oversee the graphic department and the office administration. Both are very hands on bosses, if a job needs to be finish, they are ready to assist.

Since their move to Huntingfield over 8 years ago the business has grown substantially, both agree it is due to the great attitude of the staff and clients really appreciate the fact that both Sally and Rob are willing to work long hours often at weekends to meet deadlines. Quality and customer service is always their number one priority.

Plans for the future include extensions to the existing building, to accommodate a separate graphic design department. On the printing front their aim is to continue to provide friendly, fast and above all quality work so that clients will consistently choose Newprint for all their printing requirements.

The most rewarding part of owning and operating their Company is the ability to provide employment for young people. Since the business began Newprint has put three young people through the Printing Machinist Apprenticeship & have just started another in the last few months. They have also put two staff through graphic design & prepress apprenticeships. There has always been a shortage of good qualified tradespeople in Hobart so from the beginning they chose to train their own staff.  Rob is very particular about maintenance of machinery and also cleanliness of the work environment. He believes if the work areas are clean and tidy this will be reflected in the finished product of a job. Our staff take great pride in making sure we have done everything to the best of our ability.
